Wally's been great fun this week! He has been becoming far more trusting of me and shows it with his cuddles, time spent on my lap & how much fuss he'll take before he wants to wonder off. I've been clicker training him for about ten days now. Just working on the sit command. He had it sussed within a day, but i haven't tried to move on yet as he's had many other things to learn, like what he can touch & what he can't. See, Wally lives in a recording studio so the are cables & wires everywhere, & lots of instruments & such for him to play with & break, Bengal heaven! He's been really good so far and now pretty much knows where the 'high risk' places are to avoid. His favourite thing to play with at the moment has to be a small corrugated cardboard box about 9" x 7" x 2". He loves ripping pieces off or dragging it round the room, often jamming his head inside it or throwing it several feet into the air. He doesn't like visitors as yet and hides away, but reemerges at my side soon as they leave, ready for more fuss & games. His camouflage walking jacket arrived a few days ago and he's been marching around the place in it looking very confident. He won't be going outside for a while yet, but when he does he should be happy to pop his jacket on and go out for a walk.
This short clip show's Wally just moments after he arrived here at his new home on 11th January 2011.
http://www.youtube.com/user/WallyTheBengalCat Last night for the first time Wally snuggled under the duvet with me. I think he knew I was upset about something, nothing he had done. Today he has been climbing & laying all over me, letting me fuss & rub him as much as I want. After about the first 24 hours here in his new home he was no longer up for a fuss & a cuddle. He was still being very friendly but wasn't into being handled much unless it was to carry him from room to room, which excited him greatly. Well now he's back with vengeance. Cuddles galore!
Wally's 4 months old today and has been here in his new home for just a week. He really is settling in great. Today he has been allowed to explore another two rooms under my watchful eye and was no problem at all, and when I decided it was time to go back to the rooms he is currently allowed in, he followed at my side. Infact he follows me everywhere, soon as i get up he comes over and is at my side waiting. If I need to leave him on his own for a little while I put him in my bedroom with his things. At first he would scream & scream until I returned, but now he just slides under my duvet and chills until I return and call him, then his little face pops out and he scrambles to my side.
Wally has only been here for five days but I've seen so many changes in him already. He really is starting to come out of his shell now. Today he slept until I woke up(which wasn't until noon). We then played a game for maybe 20 minutes where he would drag his "Tigger" toy on a length of elastic from my bed off to his own bed. When he let go it would spring back up onto my bed and within seconds he would reappear to reclaim his "Tigger" and drag it back off to his bed again. Later on we played fetch, I threw a little soft ball across the room and he returned it six times in succession. He then found a warm place to chillout on top of my TV tuner/DVD/hard drive and for the first time since he arrived let me leave the room without screaming his head off. Later he spent at least 30 minutes charging around the room at lightening speeds, every time running through a tunnel of cushions I'd set up for him as part of his route. When i put him on my shoulder he was fine so long as it was in the rooms he knew but as soon as we went into a room he hadn't really seen he would start crying. His strength amazes me. He has dragged his pyramid bed and a soft case holding about 40 cd's across the room several times. He is learning things very quickly & remembers so much. I've had quite a lot of cats over the last 30 years but Wally is already proving himself to be something a bit special!
Wally's only been in his new home for a few days but he's really settling in. He has started charging around the place at great speed, bouncing about like Tigger, standing on his back legs and begging, rubbing heads, running circles around me and generally getting into mischief. If I leave the room for two seconds, even if he seems fast asleep, he'll start screaming at the top of his voice until I return. When i do return he rubs up against me, purr's like a little motor boat and then starts jumping about trying to encourage me to join him in the fun & games. When he gets really excited he yells so loudly you would think he's five times the size that he is. Wally really is a little character!
I'd like to say thanks to Nikki & Lea at Stardust Bengals for their help and for letting Wally come to live with me. late last night Wally arrived at his new home. He didn't make much fuss at all during the two hour journey and within minutes of arriving he was chatting away and having cuddles.
Today he has been settling in nicely, chatting away, playing games, sleeping, having cuddles, hiding & using his litter tray. He's already chosen a few places he likes to retreat too. |
