So what is a Bengal cat you may be asking. The Bengal is a hybrid breed of cat, produced by crossing the Asian leopard cat with a domestic kitty. This is what gives the Bengal it's wild cat appearance but with a gentle domestic cat temperament, this is assuming they are at least four generations removed from the Leopard cat. Cats of lesser separations are called "foundation cats" and are best kept as breeding cats. Male Bengals such as "Wally" typically grow to around 18 pounds in weight, females typically around 12 - 15 pounds. The Bengal is a sleek and very muscular cat with its hind-quarters slightly higher than its shoulders. It's coat or pelt basically comes in two types of markings spotted or marbled and the background colour is either brown or white. In the UK there are officially 6 types of Bengal, the brown (black) spotted, brown (black) marbled, blue-eyed snow spotted, blue-eyed snow marbled, aoc-eyed snow spotted and aoc-eyed snow marbled. Wally is a brown (black) spotted Bengal. A unique characteristic of the Bengals pelt is what's called "glitter", this is a glitter effect over their fur, which is short and silky smooth. Just like people, cat's vary in personality but typical traits of the Bengal are intelligence, a love of water and a love of heights. They are great athletes moving with lightening speed and have the ability to leap to great heights. Although they look wild, Bengals tend to be big softies who adore affection, cuddles and fuss. Almost like a dog a Bengal cat will follow you around as you go about your day trying it's best to join in the activities. Even the Bengals voice is a little different from other cats and can also at times be very loud.
